SVP - Food & Beverage Practice Leader at Foa & Son
Michael heads up the Food & Beverage Industry practice at Foa & Son. Proficient in all commercial coverage lines, he has a sharp focus on the unique benefits of specialty insurance products such as marine cargo, rejection, and contamination and recall. His ability to creatively use specialty lines coverages allows for a significant increase in coverage while delivering premium savings and reducing other supply chain costs.
He takes great pride in understanding his clients’ business, delivering insurance products that meet or exceed expectations, and maintaining close working relationships with clients. Well recognized for his work in the food industry, he has built custom programs for food importers/exporters, grower/shippers, wholesale distributors, and processors. These programs tackle exposures in the food industry that are commonly uninsured or underinsured under standard, off-the-shelf insurance products. Many of the concepts developed for his food industry clients have been used in other industries to deliver similar benefits.
Michael is currently serving his second term on the board of directors of the National Fisheries Institute (NFI). In 2007, he completed the NFI Future Leaders Program, and then served ten years as the Co-Chair of the Future Leaders Alumni Committee. He has worked closely with the United Fresh Produce Association to assist their members with understanding the unique needs related to the risk of product contamination and recall.
Michael is an active member of the Association of Food Industries, and has been asked to speak to food import executives on topics such as the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Foreign Suppler Verification Program (FSVP).
Michael’s work in the food industry extends into the nonprofit arena as well. Since 2008, he has served on the board of directors of SeaShare, an organization dedicated to supplying the nation’s food bank system with high-quality seafood products.
Michael was awarded 2019 Insurance Agent of the Year by Insurance Journal.
Brad Hamburger has used his expertise in food safety and brand protection to create the Food Safety Navigator, a process for managing risks for more than a hundred food and beverage companies. Formerly a practicing attorney, Brad knows the risks and legal implications present in commercial transactions, and how to create the appropriate insurance solutions to protect client interests.
Brad also acts as the President of the Board of Directors for the not-for-profit agency, Step Up for Better Living, (SUBL) since 2002. SUBL works directly with residents of affordable housing to provide social services including Rent Assistance, Physical & Mental Health issues, and Community Education Workshops.
Brad holds a B.A. in Economics from Brandeis University, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and is admitted to the New York State Bar.
