Join us for a discussion with B Corp expert Ryan Honeyman as we walk through the certification process with Adnan Durrani (CEO, Saffron Road), Whitney Valeri (Compliance & Sustainability Manager, BeatBox Beverages), Sara Scheffler (Senior Manager of Strategy & Operations, Tomorrow Farms), and Paul Turbeville (Chief Commercial Officer, Village Gourmet).


This workshop will provide insights into the steps and strategies involved in becoming a B Corp, highlighting the impact it can have on your business and community.

    Mr. Durrani is the founder and CEO of American Halal Co, Inc d/b/a Saffron Road Foods, the leading World Cuisines entree brand nationally, sold in Walmart, Kroger, Whole Foods, Target, Wegmans, Publix, Safeway, Albertson’s, Costco and 20,000 other stores nationally. Mr. Durrani has been a serial social entrepreneur and venture capitalist for almost 30 years. He led the company’s B Corp certification process and American Halal/Saffron Road is the first and only halal food brand in the world that is B Corp certified. He also led Mr. Durrani founded Vermont Pure in 1991(now a subsidiary of Blue Triton Brands) and was a principal shareholder in Stonyfield Farms, Inc., sold to Groupe Danone in 2001. He was also a principal of Delicious Brands, Inc., which he scaled, with the financial backing of Carl Icahn, to become the 5th largest cookie brand in the U.S. Whole Foods has noted Saffron Road as one of the most successful new brand launches in recent history, having made the Inc 500’s list of fastest growing co.’s for three years. Adnan has been recognized as one of the entrepreneurs who engineered “20 Ideas That Changed The Way The World Does Business”. The select list of these inductees include: Ben Cohen (Ben & Jerry’s), Gary Hirshberg (Stonyfield Farms), Muhammad Yunus (Nobel Peace Prize, Grameen Bank), and Steve Case (AOL). Mr. Durrani is the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is also Co-Chair of Columbia’s SEAS Entrepreneurship Advisory Board. He was recognized by the Vatican and Ambassador to the Holy Sees for his “Interfaith In Business” model, where the Pope hosted him as a speaker at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He also served on the on the select Fast Company Impact Council.

    Sara Scheffler is the Senior Manager of Strategy & Operations at Tomorrow Farms, a start-up focused on building food and beverage brands that are better for people, kinder to animals, and easier on the planet. As a leader in strategy and innovation, consumer insights, sustainability, and business development, Sara has played a crucial role in building the Bored Cow brand, one of the fastest growing dairy alternatives on the market, now available in 3,000 retail doors nationwide.

    Currently, Sara is spearheading the development of Tomorrow Farms' second brand—a clean, simple ingredient snacking brand that harnesses the power of upcycled ingredients.

    Prior to Tomorrow Farms, Sara worked as an Associate Consultant in the Value Creation practice at EY-Parthenon, where she gained valuable experience across the M&A transaction lifecycle. She holds a BBA in Finance and a BA in Sustainability Studies from The University of Texas at Austin.

    Paul Turbeville is currently the Chief Commercial Officer for Village Gourmet, a premium protein and gourmet products platform with five operating companies in the charcuterie, gourmet products, and fresh sausage categories.

    Prior to Village Gourmet, Paul led marketing and sales planning at Pete and Gerry's Organics in Monroe, NH, overseeing the marketing efforts for three brands: Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs, Nellie's Free Range Eggs, and Carol's Eggs. He joined Pete and Gerry’s in early 2014, drawn by the opportunity to join a tight-knit, entrepreneurial team growing brands in a newly emerging segment. Over eight years, he built the brands into category leaders nationally while growing Pete and Gerry’s sales nearly 500% to $300MM. Paul also played a key leadership role in Pete and Gerry’s certification as the first B Corporation in animal agriculture. He led the company through numerous recertifications and spearheaded efforts to increase sustainability and corporate citizenship, including initiatives to enhance diversity within their network of family farmers. In May 2021, Pete and Gerry’s was acquired by Butterfly Equity, a leading farm-to-fork private equity firm.

    He began his career as an officer in the United States Army, serving for six years after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point. As an engineer officer, he held various positions, including platoon leader and company commander, and deployed to Iraq for 15 months during the critical 2006-2007 "surge," serving as a platoon leader for an engineer unit throughout the entire tour. Paul earned his MBA at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 2014.

    Whitney Valeri is the Compliance and Sustainability Manager at BeatBox Beverages, where she has led the company to achieve groundbreaking milestones in environmental and social responsibility. Under her management, BeatBox became the first wine-based RTD brand to earn BCorp certification in June 2023, setting a new industry standard for sustainability in the alcohol sector.

    Whitney also spearheaded BeatBox’s achievement of Carbon Neutrality in June 2024, offsetting over 37,780 metric tons of carbon through projects in Florida and Mexico, including initiatives that support biodiversity and clean energy. Additionally, her efforts have resulted in the recovery of over 3.5 million pounds of plastic, preventing significant ocean pollution.

    A passionate advocate for sustainability, Whitney draws on firsthand experience from her travels, including an industry leadership trip to India, where she witnessed the effects of the global waste crisis. Her work is fueled by a deep commitment to reducing emissions and advancing collaborative efforts within the BCorp community.

    As a speaker on this panel, Whitney will share insights on the BCorp certification process, the challenges faced, and the long-term benefits of achieving high environmental and social standards in business.
